Buster, Kevin & Beth Whitty

After 5 long years I finally convinced my husband that we “needed” a dog. We decided to get a cocker spaniel and after a week and a half of debating names came up with the name Buster (Buster Brown if he was in trouble). I had always had adult dogs and had never had to train a puppy before and my husband had never had a dog before so we agreed that we needed to attend puppy school. We attended K9 Child’s Basic Manners Class and came away with the tools and knowledge to train our puppy! Every Thursday Buster would get excited as we got closer to K9 Child and loved the classes. He got to play with other dogs and seemed to pick up on the instruction very quickly!

We graduated from the Basic Manners Class and decided to keep working with Buster and went to K9 Child’s Beginner Obedience Class. These classes helped Buster learn how to take instruction and it taught my husband and me how to give it. Contrary to popular belief - these classes aren’t only for the puppies they are also for the puppy parents! At the end of classes we could ask questions and get excellent advice on how to combat bad puppy behavior.

I would highly recommend K-9 Child for any dog for training! The classes were organized, playful and very positive!

Nikki owned by Joe & Laurie Dobesh

On August 12, 2006 our beloved Lab-mix, named Harley died after an extended illness.  Our family was devastated, as we have always had a dog in the house.  Several days later we decided to adopt a young, semi-trained, potty-trained dog from a shelter.

We had to walk through the puppy room at the Rock Island Humane Society to get through to where the older dogs were kenneled.  We fell in love with Nikki, an eight week old Border Collie mix.  She was so cute, we did not consider her activity level as a puppy.  Our entire family had very busy schedules through the winter months when Nikki would need training and constant supervision.

We were very lucky to find K-9 Child.  The hours are very flexible so we can drop Nikki off and pick her up as we choose.  She is not required to attend every day or be there any specified times.

Since Nikki has attended K-9 Child, she is better socialized with other dogs and people.  She is very excited to get in the car in the mornings.  I think she knows she is going to see her "puppy friends".  When we pick Nikki up in the evening she is very tired.  She has received the exercise needed by an active puppy and sleeps soundly all night.  It would be a shame to have to leave her in a kennel for hours at a time, when she can have all this fun.

I would highly recommend K-9 Child for any dog.  I feel confident leaving Nikki there all day to play and exercise.

Scamp Pitzer

Hi!
My name is Scamp.  My human thinks that I live up to my name.  I started coming to K-9 Child shortly after it opened.  I come here to meet new friends, human and canine.  (I live with a couple of cats but they aren't much fun to play with and even though I'm bigger (a lot), they have claws to even out the score).  When I'm at K-9, I run and play and have a lot of fun.  I usually sleep a lot the next day.  I've calmed down since I've been coming here.  When we are on our way here I start barking several blocks away to let the others know that I'm coming.  This has been a great way to use up some energy that might otherwise get me into trouble at home.

Jacki O'Donnell with Fly

For more than 2 years my dog Fly has been "going to camp" at K9 Child.  She visits three days a week and loves it!  She gets along with the other dogs very well, plays non-stop, and comes home at the end of the day happy and tired.  Sometimes she gets to have "over-nights" with the other dogs while I'm out of town.  She still has her friends to romp with and she gets great care.

Fly is a bossy little thing, a herding dog who likes everyone to be organized.  She loves to greet new dogs and show them the ropes.  I don't worry about the other dogs, because someone is always watching to make sure they all get along.  Some days the loud dogs are outside, and the quiet ones are in the office, but other days the rambunctious ones are gathered around Kim, checking out the visitors as they come to pick up their companions.

I don't think I could keep this high-energy dog happy at home myself.  She needs to run and bark and be with a crowd.  K9 Child provides a great service to me and Fly.

Bernadette

Hi, I'm Bernadette.  My mom and all my friends call me Bernie.  Under K-9's care and attention, I know that I will come home exhausted, happy, and ready to do it all over again the next day.  I really appreciate the extra efforts that Kim puts forth in having flexible hours, and making sure that all dogs play well together.  One of my favorite things to do is to play in the pool.  I highly recommend K-9 Child for anyone who works all day and wants their dog to have a fun and safe companionship during the workday.  I love daycare!  It's the good life!
