Kim Schaber,ABCDT-Owner
Kim has been working with dogs all her life. Starting at a young age she got her start in competition with a Great Pyrenees in the conformation ring. She later progressed to teaching classes and then competing in performance events. In 2005, she received her certification to be an Animal Behavior Certified Dog Trainer through the Animal Behavior College. She is also certified as a Mentor Trainer through the college and is a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator as well. She has trained and competed with several breeds from all the groups and still competes to this day in agility, obedience, and rally. In November, she moved up to the Quad Cities after getting engaged to her now husband, Andy Schaber and when this opportunity came along to fulfill her dream of owning a dog business, she couldn’t pass it up.
Kim started a club just for dogs when she joined 4-H called Dog Universe. It was a small group of members whose main focus was the dog project in the 4-H program. It produced some top winning participants at the fair winning top honors in all classes. Our county was very lucky since we had obedience, conformation, junior handling, and agility. She started with a Great Pyrenees in AKC showing in conformation and junior handling and managed to get a point on the poor quality dog. She went on to get a show quality Giant Schnauzer named “Majyk” who she would then go on to show in obedience and agility as well. Also at this time she trained a Chihuahua named “Chiquita” for obedience (and eventually rally obedience) and showed in 4-H as well as AKC.

Kim has trained several types of classes from puppy kindergarten to all levels of obedience to agility classes. She has also put together rally classes for the up and coming sport and can teach AKC or APDT since she has experience in both venues. She has also trained in several dog training fields including search and rescue, cart pulling, dancing with dogs, tricks, tracking, and behavior restructuring of rescued and problematic private lesson dogs.
She was very involved in the two kennel clubs in the Twin Cities (Bloomington-Normal IL) before moving up to the Quad Cities doing several jobs from running a conformation fun match to stewarding for the show (which had obedience, rally and conformation). She also judged for the fun match, put together the Responsible Dog Ownership Day for the club and taught Canine Good Citizen classes as well as organize conformation classes. She also tested the Canine Good Citizen for both clubs.
